We get a lot of questions in the forum and often there are just a few things missing that will make the question easy to answer. If you are preparing to ask a question, please consider including the following:
- State
- County
- Name of the operator of the well or name of the leasing agent/company
- Well Name and/or API number
- Location - Township & Range or Survey Name
- Abstract Number
- Total Acres in the unit or pool
- Number of acres owned in the unit or pool
I'm sure we're over looking a few things, so please share your thoughts and additions below. Also, don't let this overwhelm you if you don't know all of the above. Simply included as much as possible and it will increase the likelihood that you are helped.
P.S. Thank you to David who suggested this post.

I'd suggest you tack this to the top of the list. Have it as a permanent feature to help guide new members
Done. It's featured in the Oil & Gas Leasing Help Group.
Please refer new members to this thread when you see incomplete questions.

Awesome Suggestion Reagan!!!
It is enjoyable to help folks out. More information sure makes it easier and better advice can be given.
In Texas, the Abstract number ("A" number) really shortens my search for geologic information there)
Gary,
I agree with your thoughts.

Thanks, Reagan, and thanks to David for suggesting it. I've seen so many posts that say something like "Does anyone know what bonuses are in Tarrant County?" They know what state they're in, so they assume everyone does. Hopefully ppl will read this before posting. Huge help if they do. Everyone have a great day.

Please clarify “why” you want the data you are asking for.
Too often I see a person asking “is there any activity in Davis County, OK Section 8-4N-3E?” Or looking for information in ……
What kind of activity are you asking about and why will make it easier for someone to assist you.
I have mineral rights in 8-4N-3E. The lease expires in about 3 months. I’m looking for information on companies on or around the area so I can try to contact those interested in leasing.
I have mineral rights in 8-4N-3E. I leased it for 3 years in November 2011. Has there been any activity to indicate drilling is in our near future?
I have mineral rights in 8-4N-3E that have not been leased in years. I received an offer today from xyz to lease for $200 per acre for 3 years. We own about 3 net mineral acres. Is there an increased interest in the area I should consider while negotiating this lease?
Rick,
'Tips For Asking Questions In The Forum' should be a required read before posting anything on the Forum for the first time.

Please make the following change to the title:
Tips Requirements For Asking Questions in the Forum
Our family has 160 acres in Reeves County NW/4 Section 177 Block 1. We were just contacted by a person who wants to lease it. We are totally lost. What are the first steps. I have a contract to lease in front of me. What is good? What is bad?
Oklahoma....Washita....NW1/4 of 35-11N-17w lease dropped by Chesapeake, now open!
Perfect one! You can see many threads are kept on continuing like anything just because some information lags. I would like to add
- What is the floor area?
- What is the wall area?
this is our info that we are looking for answers on....
We don't really understand how all this works...or even what we are reading from this? Any help would be wonderful.
Thomas,
Click on the # 99490 and when the page comes up across to the right from G1 click on View Report and the Completion Report will pop up.

That's right, there's nothing there, they don't want you or anyone else to know the results of the well yet.

Is that common for them to not want anyone to know if they have found a well? thank you, Clint for your help as always
Thomas,
That's very much the normal thing everywhere. They don't want other producers/oil companies knowing what they have found or have not found. Some of these companies never report the completion results on their wells and if they do I'm not sure it is an honest report.

So, If they never report the completion date then that means they don't have to pay anything correct? Isn't that illegal?
No Thomas. That doesn't mean they don't have to report production to the Texas RR Commission. But they may still never post a Completion Report for you and I and everyone else to see.
Just be patient Thomas. Good things will come to those who wait. Royalty checks will start rolling in 1 day and every month will be like Christmas.

Clint, This is Thomas' wife. I prayed a certain prayer 3 days before the call came in about mineral rights that he never knew he had..Let me back up. I lost my job due to severe health issues and was fired before I could collect half my salary from my job of 24 years...Half my salary would be a lot more than disability and I would have received it for many years..I have prayed and trusted God that I was done wrong and I will receive my salary some way some how..Many people are skeptical about receiving anything from this. I'm not. Even my husband is skeptical, but I still remain strong and have peace that God is working behind the scenes. The kicker to this story is I prayed for this very thing and when the call came I was jumping up and down screaming that's God..Uh, We were in public and I am sure people thought I was crazy. I don't care..I am standing strong that God is all over this..I don't believe that I prayed for this exact thing and 3 days later a landman calls...I'm standing true and strong in my faith in God that he will provide through this..Some may think I'm crazy but God knows my heart..And you are right "Good things do come to those who wait". Everything I read doesn't really talk about royalty checks being very much..I'm believing and trusting it will be different for us..Thanks again for all your help..
