We have a unique situation. We live about 2 miles from Harrison county. We actually live in Lewis county. We pay all our taxes in Lewis county, except for a tax we have to pay for oil and gas that we can’t find any info about. We tried to figure it out years ago, but just got the run around.
Is your oil and gas in a horizontal well? If so, it probably has at least some of it in Harrison County and the rest in Lewis County. I have seen this situation a few times in other counties. If it is this situation, Harrison County does not contain your tract within its boundaries so you pay that part of taxes to Lewis but since you get income from the part of the well that lies in Harrison, and maybe the wellhead is there, they have you pay tax for that portion of your income. You could call the Assessor’s office at each county and ask, but my guess is this is your situation.
