google maps will show you all the roads.
For a more formal approach updated County maps are available on the Texas Department of Transportation web site. To purchase maps, call the Texas Department of Transportation at 512-486-5014
Buzz Van Meter (or anyone else),
You seem to be more âupâ on the goings on in the Pecos area, so I thought Iâd see what you might know about any permit/drilling activity or lease rates in the vicinity of Section 40 Block 59. My family has 100% mineral and surface interest in 400 contiguous acres in that block under lease for about 1 1/2 more years. Thanks.
Thanks, J Matthews for the info, it is appreciated. Louise
Ann â Two amended vertical permits were issued in Aug 2011 for COGâs IKE STATE 25 #1 and #2, Abstract #5954, 9.0 miles SSE of Pecos. The RRC site shows a vertical completion report âDrilling Completedâ date of 9-13-11 on the #1 well, the Well Status Code being designated âZ â Unperfed completionâ. âUnperfedâ is short for âunperforatedâ which means that production casing has been set but the well has not been finally completed. In this condition the operator has (obviously) put the well on hold â while evaluating other information â and planning on coming back and perforating the casing and fracing the well before placing it on production.
Re: the #2 well, a review of RigData weekly drilling reports back to w/e 2-24-12 (when my subscription started) does not show that the #2 well was being drilled since then. That leaves a gap of 5 months after the permit was issued. Later â Buzz
berrytc â I think I have you spotted 11.4 miles NW of Toyah, Abstract 1562. If so, sorry to report thatâs one area of the county where there has been very little activity for over a year now. Petrohawk does have 7 permitted locations circling 3-8 miles around Toyah dating back over a year now. Later â Buzz
Buzz,
Thanks for the info.
Buzz, THANK YOU! Canât tell you how much I appreciate the information. I am in the adjoining Section 26 and was both concerned about drainage and wanting to know why the well wasnât producing. Iâm under lease with Clayton Wms.
Thanks again - I donât know what weâd do without ya!
Oops,
Maps of County roads. Louise
Ann â you donât need to be nearly as concerned about drainage from shale or tight sands wells as you would be with so-called âconventional wellsâ. Later - Buzz
Makes sense, Buzz⌠I hadnât thought that one out.
More infrastructure in Reeves County.
Lori â Iâm familiar with the well - COTTONMOUTH 58-47 #1 - a horizontal well completed a year ago involved in a joint venture between Energen Resources, who drilled the well, and Petrohawk, who completed the well and is now the operator. Usually when they say âwaiting on a pipeline,â that means a natural gas line. Without seeing the lease, itâs hard to advise you, but thereâs probably a âshut-inâ gas well clause where they could pay $x to extend the lease, say for a year. Donât get me wrong⌠most recent well completions in Reeves produce a combination of oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids. Keep asking questions of Petrohawk and keep us informed of the progress. (Good post)
Buzzâfirst time posterâwhat happens to a âshut-inâ well when the lease runs out? Our lease with Petrohawk/BHP will be up in June.
6.1 miles NW of Toyah
A-1530, Block 58, Section 47
Been told waiting on pipeline??
Lori, Look at the shut-in royalty clause in your lease.
My wifeâs family has the mineral rights to the east 365 acres Section 14 Block C-18. The current lease expires in October and has no option for extending. Any ideas on current lease rates and contract lengths?
Rosetta, who bought Comstockâs position in our area, is upping its drilling program

I have a lease expiring in Sept on 54 net mineral acres (abstract #1054) about 20 miles NW of Pecos. Have been offered $1250 per NMA for 3 years with 25% royalty. Anyone know of any offers in this area? There is a producing horizontal well in the next section, by Anadarko and they are the ones offering to re-lease my acres. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Craig â from what others have said about Anadarkoâs inactivity in northern Reeves County, Texas, Iâm a little surprised they are interested. The last permit they received in Reeves was in June 2011. Itâs good that they are still interested, but for a song?
See my April 5 post below showing the results of a recent GLO sealed bid sale where a part section 8 miles WSW of you fetched over $2K per year with 2 parties interested in bidding, one being Cimarex who is currently drilling a horizontal well in Section 34 (A-369), 4.4 miles west (slightly NW) of your part-Section 31.
Imoorhead â In January, Petrohawk put two horizontal wells on production less than a mile to your NW in H&GN, Block 4, Section 33 (A-397). Activity that close should bode well, one would hope. Whoâs the current leasee?
