You are right, we need more drilling rigs, more water, more cement, fracking trucks and general labor that knows how to work. This would even cut all the welfare checks. But, I think the word “Work” to care of all the welfare people.
Now according to Ronald’s dreams. Companies are going to built these drilling rigs cheap since no one wants to buy one. I’m not sure what one of these rigs cost, but it has to be several million. Then their is a waiting list for fracking truck and even cement, so they are going to give big discounts to get people to buy. I was lucky to get cement last fall to do a little remodeling. So, I don’t see the drilling cost going down any time soon. I think what Ronald is reading, the drilling cost in Logan Co is less than some other places due to the wells not being real deep. This does help a little on the cost, but the set up cost is still there.
Todd, thanks for letting me know about the trees, guess we will be doing some diesel spraying instead of cutting. We got rid of lots of elm/junk trees with spraying. Hope we get enough moisture this year to help it work as chemicals don’t look cheap again this year. Guess it’s because all these mineral owners are making to much on oil nowadays, I’m sure the oil companies don’t feel it’s to high and the chemical company don’t even feel sorry for you, just get that check wrote.
@Ronald, as a former music journalist (10 years) I got a good laugh being reminded how Shakespeare’s critics dropped the “E” as a way to degrade him. Thanks for that one…@Todd, be sure to save some of your cedar wood. Untreated, the stuff is brilliant for “plank grilling” salmon, shrimp, and just about any other kind of seafood.
@Virginia, I know that joke…yeah, its a wee bit raunchy for this forum. He he.
Lol yes there is a abundance of cedar tree’s need to set some time aside and put that cedar tree sheer to work I bought but something always seems to come up, oh and winter grass has really come on and trees are beginning to come in
Well, Virginia and Harley, I have read a couple of places where Osage has publicly said that one of the good things about drilling in Logan County, is that the cost of drilling a Horizontal well, because of various factors, can be LESS then 3 million dollars. I’ trying to say, is everything drops the more we get to know it, a prime exaqmple would be my Comaq 3020 all-in-one computer I purchased at Comp USA Philadelphia in 1978, cost me over $2,800.00 it was the top of the PC line. I loved it so much that a few weeks later I bought another one, which I still use sometimes today. Same-o in drilling, then get new technology, they get better at drilling, the price does not go up, it goes down. Only the price at the pump to fill up your cars tank goes up. LOL
You are still right, you can drill a well in Logan Co cheaper than you can in other places, but it’s still going to be in the millions. I just read in todays paper that people are having to pay $500 a month just to park a trailer in a field, no hook up between Houston and just north of the Mexico border in the Eagle Ford Shale fields. Now that would be ruff with no hook up. Even prisoners have a nicer place, yet these hard working oil drilling rig people have to live like this. come on, do we expect them to work for low wages? So, they are having to raise their pay. Even dish washers were making $15. per hour in that area.
I just got off the phone with a Houston oil friend. He said they are laying lines on top of the ground as they can’t get enough diggers/dozer to buried them. I’m still wondering where all these unemployed works are?
A lot of us are new at this Oil & Gas business and there’s a lot to learn with all of this, but what I found is to do your own research, make a habit of reading the forum and use your own “Common Sense”!! Otherwise, you could easily be “driven by fear” (to do or not do - this that or the other) and lose out altogether! It’s like anything else, it takes time to learn everything and it all depends on how many net mineral acre’s you own, their location and accordingly, how much time you want to invest to do the research?
I know the attorney syndrome is pushed real hard here, but depending only attorney’s to cover your behind sometimes gives you a false sense of security. I found that one out the hard way until, I learned how to play the game! Everything, is not the way it seems however, I’m not saying all attorney’s are bad or, aren’t “worth the powder to blow them up with” lol, but what I am saying, some are only “PRACTICING LAW” and they “NEED YOU” to practice on!! In other words, if they miss something, make a mistake or have you acknowledge a lease that you don’t have a clear understanding of and something goes wrong, you will end up eating it, not them!!
Not that I’m totally ANTI-ESQ., because, I have a good friend that I may trust if I were to ever need a lawyer, but depending on what its worth to you, do your homework and keep in mind, some well meaning comments are just worth passing by and “taking with a grain of salt” while, other comments have no other agenda, but true sincere value!
Just don’t let it overwhelm you to the point - that you end up making a hasty decision!
Virginia … I wouldn’t go as far as to compare a Dr. to an attorney! Lol I guess I look at things a little differently when it comes to having a need to retain an attorney. The reason for this is if I feel that I have to tell an attorney (who specializes in a particular area law) “what I do or don’t need in a contract” and then, pay him too boot (for nothing), I’d seriously think I may be in dire need of a Dr.!! heehee
I think the NG was used for fracking, not for the drilling water. They have been able to reuse some of the drilling water, but they still need some fresh water is mine understanding. I am not out there drilling, so I only know what I hear. The NG fracking has some good points and some bad. It’s more costly because they have to have large motors to put pressure down the hole every few hours, it’s a round the clock frack and can take a month or more with 2 people living at the well site taking shifts. So, I’m not sure how much of this is being used right now. It’s a great deal if you think there is a lot of water in the area and you don’t want the fracking water to bring back salt water and ruin the well. This method is usually used by water flood areas and places that have been known to have large volume of water. I don’t know a lot about what goes on in the field as I’m not out there. I’m sure someone on here that works the field can tell us a lot more.
There is a line from William Shakespeare’s HENRY VI, that has been mis-interpreted in many ways, but it actually reads, to the best of my own memory, is ‘‘The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers,’’. I do not know, that seems a little radical, maybe Shakespeare would not mind too much if we just changed the words “all the” to “some of?” LOL (That is how William Shakespeare spelled his name, with an “e” at the end, critics dropped the e after he died out of hatred for him. LOL
The point I was trying to make is. When you go to a doctor, you tell him what is wrong, then he give you some medicine and hopes it works. If you don’t get well, you go back, hopefully you didn’t pass away in the meantime.
When you go to an attorney, people go in and give him the lease, he reads it and tries to figure out what you want. If he doesn’t guess it right, you are mad at him. Yet you go back to the doctor the 2nd time. I live by a lots of doctor’s and attorney’s. They are wonderful people and are very caring and are great neighbor’s. But, they can’t guess what you want if you don’t know. That would be like walking in to a car dealer and tell him you want a car. He said, what color, so he get that color for you, but it may not be the right size. So, unless you know what you want it doesn’t work. You may have made the wrong choice on the car and get rid of it within 6 months, but when you sign a lease, you are stuck in some cases many of years. So my point is, know what you are signing.
Virginia, I think where we differ is that you grew up in a family that had wells who taught you the ropes. However, there’s a lot of people who had no idea they even owned any minerals or had forgotten they owned minerals (until, they were contacted by an Oil Co.) and wouldn’t have the slightest idea of what they want other than, a few million in their hip pocket! In your case, its different since, you have the experience under your belt to know what to ask for!
Now, as far as the Dr. is concerned … Oh! Never mind! lol
What do we need cedar wood for? I use pear and pecan wood in the grill, but never heard of using cedar. This stuff is a fire hazard. I also put pear & pecan wood in the fireplace. All my neighbors love the smell.
Since you are saying plank grilling, do you put your salmon, etc on top of the cedar? I must be missing out on life again.
Virginia I have been to court, as a witness for State Farm Ins who was suing a couple kids because they did not have auto insurance and caused a wreck. The judge told the 2 lawyers and defendants to go out in the hallway for 15 minutes and see if they could not reach an agreement. Because of photograph evidence I provided, the 2 gys and their lawyer agreed to settle and pay. They did. My bet is they have insurance to this day. Still an ugly situation either way.
Most case are settle out of court, but the attorney’s fees to get there can be very expensive.
R W ,
I have used mesquite that I purchases, thanks heaven I don’t have any of that property left. I sold most of my TX surface property. It’s a losing battle with mesquite. Cedar trees in Oklahoma is bad enough. At lease once you get them down, they don’t come back. Mesquite will come back and you don’t know when.
I don’t like your last line or you haven’t been to court. Suits can be very expensive and I really don’t think that is the way things should be handed. But, sometimes it’s the only way. I get tired of talking real fast nowadays to oil companies that don’t do anything.
Those 4 words can be one of the most expensive paragraph of your lease.
But, I think when Daniel Charest one of the best high-stakes litigation attorney in Dallas gets CKP in court, things will change. And thank Pete for this URL on CKP.
