Logan County, OK - Oil & Gas Discussion archives

If someone on here is serious about $5k an acre I have 10 net acres of mineral rights in 25 19N 4W that are possibly available that are leased at 3/16ths.

Kaye Salt water disposal well.

Virginia,

The pad was 5 acres bought by osage drilling to drill a SWD well. They bought the pad, the owner had no minerals. He sold it to them for 50,000 dollars, and they are giving him 7cents per bbl. for disposal. They wanted to pay him by the month, but he insisted on the per bbl price. This is very wise because your site could become a commercial disposal site in the future, where the operator is making a lot of money injecting produced water from other producers. I think it would be the best policy to lease the pad to the operator on a long term lease by the month, say $1500 per month, which is perfectly reasonalbe, then if there is any SWD well drilled, I would limit any pumps to electrical pumps, (less noisy) insist the containment is lined, and that every bbl injected is metered electronically, and demand a monthly report generated. Salt water disposal is a big buisiness, and the operators are nortoriously crooked lying cheats. As a former federal oil and gas inspector, I saw lots of evidence of stealing oil from producers by SWD operators. Many people dont realize that in aggregate, SWD operators are the largest oil producers in Okahoma.

Robert, what is a SWD well?

Robert,

Thanks for all the information. I don’t want a salt water well on my property anymore. You are right about everything, Oil companies take advantage of the local farmers and it’s a shame to watch what is happening. I had a salt water well once, but only for my wells and one of the lines broke, took me 10 years to get grass back in my meadow and was very costly. More than I was making off the SW well. Then I purchases a farm that had a dry hole and they must of left the pit drain, we work on it over 5 years and it’s still got spots that won’t grown any thing. OERB even helped on this farm.

I think the drilling mud things is the next problems we may have on the land.

I plan on going to a Driling Mud education class in Perry Oklahoma on the 21. They had some good speakers, like Mike Moore from OCC, Dr. Ferrell - OSU law, Chad Penn-OSU soil chemistry and DR. Warrern, OSU soil & water conservation. They should have some good information on the latest problem. I know some people in TX have let them put Drilling mud on their fields for about $1,500. and wish they had never seen it. Others don’t care.

Thanks Richard!!

Barbara, I would try to get ahold of contact Greg Taft gtaft@moncrieffoilproperties.com to see if he might be interested. Greg has leased several of us here and has been real professional to work with!

Thank you Kay, good to know!

I also would like to know about leasing offers at S24,17N,2W in Logan County, OK.

Thanks

Mineral Joe,

That was Greg Taft of Moncreiff Oil Properties at $700.00 per nma and 1/5 royalty in S26-T17N-R4W in Logan County.

Regards

There is nothing wrong with water disopsals if done right and these days the OCC is on top of them making sure .I have recently put in a public SWD.One thing to note, every one who is geting exited about all this big lease money, damages and royalty payments from H wells can forget about them without the saltwater disposals. The wells make lots of water and its got to go somewhere.Without them there is no H drilling which means a drop in new production and high gas prices so what do we do now.The answer, cry about high gas price.

Lee,

I will agree with you regarding SWD, BUT the surface owners need to be treated right. Like I said before a pipe leaked and I had to have several meeting with OCC field man to get anything done. Then the oil company did a half way job and it took me years and very costly to get my grass back in my meadow. Their are lots of wonderful companies, but their also a lot a bad companies. It’s sad when companies don’t treat land/mineral owners right. A long time ago, farmers didn’t know, but today lots of the land is owned by non-farmers and people who are working in the oil buisness and know what is going on.

Also, it’s sad, but lots of city people just don’t care how much damage they do to the land. I live in the city and see things everyday that is being done by oil companies drilling on city lots less than 5 A. Now out city don’t even want them drilling anymore.

So, oil companies, straighten up and clean up or ship out. I may be burning wood before long anyway.

Virginia,

Dont even bother with the OCC. They are lapdogs to the oil and gas industry. Call the EPA for any saltwater spills, or major oil spills. Call the EPA if there is not a sufficient dike around your oil tanks and file a complaint. There should be a fence around your tank batteries, nets over the open top water tanks, screens over the heater treater stack, your dike should be 1.5 times the volume of the largest tank, minus the foot print of the other tanks, so that if there is a complete discharge from one of the tanks, and a heavy rain, your supposed impermeable dike will hold all of the spilled oil. Also there should be no grass inside the dike. Also your tanks should be free of rust, painted and well maintained. There should be no spills or leaks around the well head either. If you have an operator that does not respect your land or you by not maintaining his facilities, give him a wake up call. The EPA has to follow through with every complaint. Unlike the OCC, they will fine the operator and make him clean up his mess. If everyone did this, perhaps we could save the aquifers from pollution for the next generation.

I can look the deed up online if it is after 1994 with the name on the deed. Then I could help you.

My family has just found out about mineral deeds in Logan County. Is there an “Interpreting Mineral Deeds” book out there somewhere? We are trying to determine how to decode description to determine how much land it covers. An offer has been made by a landman so that is vital info. Any/all assistance is welcomed! Many thanx…Chris

Chris,

A deed will not tell you for certain your net, it will state your gross if that is what you want. The only way to determine net is to run title (examine records) at the court house. What township and range?

I have gathered a number of folks who may be leasing in the county, but does anyone have a comprehensive list?

Has anyone had dealings with Continental? I recently had a salt water spill on my property from a leak in a line. They’ve cleaned up the spill but they offered me squat for damages. I’ve countered a price but now waiting. Does anyone have any advise? Thanks.

Lee,

Their leak was from their salt water line on my property. It leaked about 2 weeks or more without anyone finding it. Saltwater went down into the creek.

Was the leak on thier location or off location.
