Garvin County, OK - Oil & Gas Discussion archives

Congratulations Chris! Welcome to the wonderful world of parenting. Enjoy every moment as they grow up too fast! And thank you so much for spreadsheet! Oh, hope you have some good wells come in…having a girl you are going to need it!

Hi all. I fell off the board for a while as we had our first baby earlier this summer and she has been keeping mom & dad pretty darn busy!!

And you all have been busy… it took me a day to read the 60 or so pages of comments for Garvin since I had last signed in!

I just updated the list of poolings for Garvin County. Again, this is a list of pooling orders for the county I keep in order to have a sense of where the numbers are when someone asks to lease. Comments welcome:

(And Linda I’m going to get to work on the Stephens list!)

Congratulations!

Wow, such a very interesting story to me, Sondra! I used to run around that Healdton area so much when I was a teenager when I would stay with my cousin and then my husband ending up teaching science and coaching High School Basketball, Jr. High football and Track there when we were first out of college (around 1972-1973) so I know how much of an oilfield town it is. Lots of pumping units (some on here call them pumpjacks but I’d not ever heard them called that before~probably some of these big city boys lol) around the countryside. These new wells in this area of the SCOOP that are going to the woodford are not needing pumping units to get the oil to come up as they have so much gas with them. So instead of being lulled to sleep by the hum of them they have to use the roar of the gas! Get the earplugs!!!

If you are around 65 you are my age and many more we’ve been talking to on here. Golden Years My Rear! Give me those good old days! lol

Linda, during the depression my grandfather (who had a teaching and an engineering degree) was in charge of an oil field in Dillard, which is located right next to Wilson, OK. My husband and I moved to OK about 16 years ago. About 13 years ago two of my uncles and my aunt (3 of the 5 siblings still living at that time) came from California to visit me. We drove down to Ardmore, Wilson, and what used to be the little hole-in-the-road Dillard. I could kick myself for not having a video camera with me to document all they showed me. We walked on to a private area there now owned by EXXON and asked their permission to walk further to see where they all once lived. Of course, my mother and other siblings were just kids and teenagers at the time, but they took me to the old cellar and still-standing oak tree located next to where their house once stood. They lived there during the depression and Grandpa was like an overseer–maintaining the wells and equipment of the whole area there. They said all the oil workers except Grandpa lost their jobs during the depression. He took over doing all the jobs of those being laid off. I remember the stories my mother told when she was alive about the sound of the pumping wells lulling her to sleep every night. My uncles and aunts showed me where they went to school, etc., and the stories about “I had to walk more than two miles to school in the snow” became vivid to me as we drove all around the area. Someplace over in that area there is a small well that is still pumping out small royalties to my family. We keep thinking it will go dry, but it has pumped faithfully for at least 50 years. Anyway, the section where our minerals are now was a bit further down the road from Dillard. The family once owned the surface land, but sold that about 15 years ago.

Don’t worry about typos–my husband who has a Ph.D. (seminary professor and minister) types faster than a secretary and his emails are full of them. He simply doesn’t have time to go back and reread what has been written, and I think many people do the same think. Of course, nowadays, the youth of our nation slaughter spelling and grammar with their texting shortcuts, etc. So much so that I can hardly read my nieces/nephews messages.

Thanks for the compliments but the old body is showing wear and tear. I guess you and I are about the same age, so you know what I mean!!!

Pamela (and Linda), the idea that only part of our minerals are leased is something that I haven’t heard before. I just assumed our lease was for the whole area. My lease is in a vault so I don’t have access to it here at home, but perhaps that is something I need to pursue. Thanks for your input.

VERY GOOD REPORT Chris and BEAUTIFUL FAMILY~ Makes me want a new one~Grandbaby that is. Our youngest if 5 and she is soooo much fun as are the rest of them but growing up way too fast! I believe the kids are done with that baby making stuff so I guess we’ll have to settle for these ole oil wells. Looks like we might need a redo on the pooling too~we took the first offers Newfield and Continental gave us and was glad to get it but those poolees got a big piece of pie. OH well, didn’t end up too bad. Congratulations on that beautiful little one!!!

Nice work, Chris-on the baby. OK, on the list too. lol Are you related to anyone in the Pernell area?

Here is an article from Fuel Fix about the Eagle Ford that talks about the Red Queen, chokes, and decline rates. It applies to the Woodford.

http://fuelfix.com/blog/2013/10/30/red-queen-effect-can-make-produc…

Everyone (especially Linda)…thanks for getting me going on this. I googled “pooling”, “the Woodford” and “SCOOP” and have learned more about all this. Also read about future implications with shale like a blog on Desmogblog.com talking about faster drilling in the Woodford is diminishing returns (similar to what is said below in the link that Lynden Foley gave us). I’m starting to see that timing is everything in leasing, selling and/or holding (as in Kenny Rogers’ song…you gotta know when to hold them…know when to fold them…). It’s a bit scary!

Vicki, I am not aware of any family in Pernell. My Oklahoma family is from my mom’s side, Blanton, mostly right in PV although the Blanton name seems to have run its course in the last generation.

And thanks to all for the congratulations on our baby. If you want to indulge a proud pappa and look at pictures, our little Estelle is here: http://goo.gl/7f5LkI – even more exciting (to me) than Linda’s oil rig pictures!

Beautiful family Chris! Yes, anyone around PV knows the Blanton name. Are you Bettys son? I think she only lives here part time now above the Blanton building downtown and she probably doesn’t remember meeting me, but my friend Lou Hall introduced us several years ago.

Darla, yes, Betty is my mom! I’ll make sure Lou introduces us when we are in PV in a few weeks (sadly Estelle won’t be with me on this trip). Vicki, my grandfather and great granddad, both James Blanton, were attorneys in PV. Trying to better understand how to work with the mineral interests they passed on to my mom and other members of the family is what brought me to this amazingly helpful discussion board.

Karla, I replied to your questions with a really long drawn out answer. Did you not receive it? If I stray off the beaten path of the comment wall I sometimes get lost. Hope you got my message-let me know if you didn’t. I’ll try to resend. They get the permit to drill before they force pool.

I’ve updated the list of poolings to include Stephens County information from the last couple of months – link below; just look for the tab at the top that says Stephens to see it. As always, comments welcome. I’m still trying to catch up on reading in Stephens and other counties and will post it there once I’m up to date.

Chris, I tend to think drilling rigs are a beautiful site, but that baby beats any rig I ever saw, even one drilling in a section I have mineral rights in. Indeed, a lovely family. Seems I recall several yrs ago, an attorney in PV by the name of Blanton. Can’t be sure though.

Chris, That would be great. Check at the courthouse. That is where I seem to spend a lot of time. I think most of us on the forum inherited our minerals. I have just probably taken it a step further by becoming a land man when I inherited mine. I just love the fact that everyone is able to interact and share their knowledge and I have also learned a few things I didn’t know. Linda, I don’t think these ole oil wells are near as fun as those grandbabies. Our youngest is 4 and I’m hoping for one more from my youngest in a couple years.

Darla…Didn’t know your picture earlier was a grand. Thought it was your baby. I agree, not nearly as much fun watching wells as babies but I guess it might help us to have more time to enjoy them.

I promised to stay on the subject (about a dozen times) of mineral rights but have a hard time doing that. I’ll try to do better!

In this area, the drilling is not from one pad yet. Other counties have it in some places. Only dumb question is one you don’t ask. We all had to learn sometime.

Congrats on Estelle. She is beautiful! Blessings to all of you.

What does it mean if a drilling permit is in review? Do they do pooling before they get a permit to drill? Trying to understand the process. I understand that they are putting several wells per section? Are they on one pad? I think that is all the dumb questions I have right now. I think I have read enough to be dangerous!
