Short answer is yes, then landman (title, not gender specific) only gets paid to get the contract signed.
Long answer is, why would you need to contact them? If it's a legal issue then have your attorney contact them. Otherwise they probably don't want to talk to you until it's producing or they want to re-up the lease.
My company on the original lease, PetroEdge, did not contact me after they resold the lease to another company. I don't care but it would have been nice to get an update.
