On a podcast Jerry Jones was on the end of last year Jerry said he was going to have 26 rigs in Leon County in 2026. I have seen or heard of 26 rigs for Comstock in Leon County. Even Mitusi been pretty quiet. Hilcorp has more drilling going on than the other companies. Anyone have any idea what happened? A friend of mine and I were talking the other day and think the push back on the data centers by some kinda stop a lot of the activity. People need to realize Leon County has changed and will change more in the future. This is 2026 technology not the 1970’s, progress is going to happen and we will have to adapt to it. There no way about it, people want more and more and want it faster and faster. I have said it before when intrastate 45 came into the county. People fought it and said it wasn’t needed. Can you imagine all the traffic driving old 75 today today. People wanted green energy, some ranchers sold out to these companies for solar panels and now they fight them. Its not like they are taking the land for nothing. These ranchers can retire without a worry for the rest of their life and maybe the children to. Commissioner Court is just about full every meeting because someone is complaining. I understood the water consumption for the data centers. But new technology now has cut that down a good bit. My family didn’t get land here until 1970, so I am not a long time rancher here but do understand changes. I don’t like it either but I do understand working together with data centers companies, solar panels companies, and everything else coming in the future is needed. We have to voice our opinions and let them voice their opinions and find common ground for everyone to work together.

There is no way Comstock would have 26 rigs operating in Leon County during 2026. They have been operating four rigs in the Western Haynesville for quite some time. Currently, they have three rigs drilling in Leon, and one in Robertson.
My bad. It was 26 wells in production. I was working on a tractor at the time and had this video going at the time. I thought when I heard this like wow that’s a lot of rigs. But it’s jerry and who knows.
My family has owned extensive property in Leon county that they have sold over the years retaining the mineral rights. Much has been left to me. I have spent the last 6 months trying to shore things up for my daughter in my will. I might as well be a dog chasing its tail. Any and all land men will tell you to never sell but there is absolutely no profit in it in this century. Even if you have a well that’s producing your federal and property taxes eat up everything and if you try to research anything on anything you own no matter how extensive there is absolutely no one that will or can give you an honest answer in your favor even if you do the leg work yourself. If I sound pessimistic it would sure be nice to hear from someone that can prove me wrong.
I have previously been the beneficiary of natural gas royalties in Leon and Freestone county back in the mid 1990s. This was with pioneer natural resources and these two units still are active today, albeit the production is of course down to scant levels now.
Now my family waits on the activities of Mitsui who we signed and then renewed a large lease with just in the past four years.
The information posted here about high sulfur levels and lack of pipeline infrastructure I think is important information.
In our case with Mitsui, they have invested a large amount of money and time into the region. In fact, they’re continuing to lease towards the southeast near Centerville. I understand their activity to be centered around LNG export and not data centers.
While I have yet to see a dime in production royalties, I know that these people are extremely serious and are busy working towards something here.

May I ask, are you a landman or an operator as well as an owner? Your reply is the same of I have to say maybe hundreds now in the last 20 yrs.

Mitsui stated in their 2024 press release regarding Leon and Freestone that it’s going to be exploratory with full production not underway after 2026.
i’m not counting chickens right now because all I see is eggs.

I am not involved in oil and gas in any way. I’m an individual living in California who’s great great grandfather homestead large acreage there in Freestone and Leon in the 1870s. When my grandfather sold, I imagine this was in the post war era, he retained the mineral rights. I know little about this and that’s why I like this forum and why I’m here.
In 1996 when I was 27 years of age I received what could be considered at the time substantial royalties off of two conventional Wells near Buffalo. This money put the wind in the sails of my first business. Pioneer natural resources was the name on the check.
I have no idea how much acreage you have or what kind of lease you have signed, or if you have ever signed a lease. Or if your land is restricted in any way. Or perhaps small acreage and 1000 cousins who own it with you. It’s all very complicated and situational.
In my case, the lease we signed and then renewed recently was welcome money that yes, I paid tax on. I was pleased.
I keep in mind I didn’t work for this, my ancestor slept on the cold hard ground out there in 1872. This is mailbox money.
As for my minerals, I don’t sell. That’s my position. My two daughters will inherit them.
How much interest do you own in acres? I know of many folks making millions on royalties but they own a lot of acreage and have exposure to oil not just gas. Northern Leon is gas and those prices have been low for years
I have more than a few abstracts that range from 70 acres to 600 and have been leasing and releasing a few of them since about 2002. One is producing but it’s gone through changes as far as operators, bankruptcy etc.. I am pretty much now following this site for ideas and new information. Thank you for your time !!
The abstracts range anywhere from 70-600 acres in East and SE Texas.
We have acreage in Leon and southern Freestone counties. We have leased to all of the Major players. Mitsui has been the worst operator. Lots of problems drilling. Comstock very active and Expand being very deliberate.

My family is O.Henson mineral rights also, dating back several generations.
Mitsui IR told me (February '26) their plan is start back with O.Henson late '26 or early '27. Just painfully slow in their process, which I understand is their modus operandi.
Plausible we share the same family history in Leon County near Buffalo if part of or close to Irwin Abstract A-421. The extended family still owns mineral rights on about 100 NMA in this 150 NMA abstract going back to 1840/1860.
