I was contacted about leasing a couple sections in Yoakum County. Can anyone share what bonus and rate they have agreed to this year? Thanks!
What section?
The sections are in Block D.
I have some in John H. Gibson Survey Block D Sections 807 and 138.
I will be watching because I would like to lease mine.
I leased Section 709 in Block D for $300/ac + 1/4 royalty. I couldn’t find any information about activity in that area, so don’t know if I was generous or not.

I got a recent offer for Section 7 Block D for $225 an acre and 3/16. Central/Eastern part of Yoakum County. Anyone near there?
Any tips on who to contact? I have 640 acres in Section 505 and 506 Block D. I would like to lease at this time.
On Aug. 16, Arlen Edgar, 78, longtime oil and gas investor, was quoted as saying, “Anymore, a 25% royalty is standard and it’s not unusual to find 1000.00 to 3000.00 bonuses per acre in really hot areas.” The article “Permian Basin in new oil boom” was in the Aug. 19th, 2012 El Paso Texas.
I have 640 acres that I would love to lease. It is in Section 505 and 506 Block D. My family has owned these mineral rights since approximately 1909. This is in Yoakum County, Texas in Plains. It is right next to the Wasson field, approximately six miles. Looking at the Texas Railroad Commission, it has a ton of wells on it. We turned down a lease offer in 1995.
I hear prices like 250 - 400 dollars per acre are being offered and accepted. Oxy Oil, who is working the Wasson field, said six miles was too far. I have spoken to several landmen and people in the business. Even those who aren’t interested at this time all say “Don’t sell your mineral rights and be sure to have an attorney go over your lease offer.” I hope this information can help someone and I would love to hear from interested oil companies, oil scouts, or landmen. Or my neighbors.
Thank you, Michael Patterson
