For those of you living in the Grapeland area: If you get a chance, drive by the well location and get a few photos if you see anything interesting. Thanks!

Is this a Bossier or Haynesville Well?

No way to know until a directional survey is published after completion of drilling.

I am used to Oklahoma filings for horizontal wells. The application states a total depth of 18,600”. Is that measured depth or true vertical depth? With a 9000’ lateral that would put TVD in the 10,000’ ballpark which doesn’t seem to fit what I expected to be the target. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

I think 18,600 is the TVD. The Yancey test well was drilled to a TVD of 18,551.

TVD of Bossier/Haynesville is much deeper than 10,000 feet in that location.

Apologies, Alan — you’re correct for that area, and I’ll backtrack my earlier statement. The Haynesville/Bossier there is much deeper than I noted, which means the horizontal section will likely be shorter. The permit’s TD of ~18,600 ft accounts for both the vertical depth and the lateral

Nope, 18,600 is the TVD. The plat attached to the W-1 shows the lateral is planned to be about 8,000 feet long.

Mr. Harrington is correct in his responses. These are the same issues I brought up yesterday concerning MD verses TVD. The original Yancey encountered the Bossier at 16263’ and the Haynesville at 17645’. The proposed perforated interval in the Yancey 2H measures a little over 8300’ in length. That would equate to a MD in the 26,000’ ballpark. I am still puzzled why the application doesn’t require such standard industry parameters.

Looking at the Plat for the 2H horizontal on the top left a diagram seems to indicate that the 2H has been moved 35 feet. Is this a complete new well bore? Or is this going to be a reentry and then drilled horizontal?

After looking at the original Yancy permit for the vertical 18,600 ft. well and comparing it to the 2H horizontal permit, TWO different surveyors were used! The boundaries and lengths are different. Results like this often happen.

New drill. The wellbore of the first well corkscrewed. Bottom hole was more than 200 feet out of vertical.
