Great to see some activity in horizontal drilling in Wilbarger Co. again. I hope they hit a monster!

Am I looking at that right? A horizontal run of more than a mile?

Is that common?

Larry,

Look at the lateral on this LaSalle County H well.

I guess I haven’t been paying close enough attention.

And I think it’s pretty interesting that the Tradition wells are all at 5,000 feet or less, while the Anschutz/Cabot wells are closer to 10,000 feet deep. It looks like Traditions is interested (enough to drill several wells in the last couple of years) in a completely different formation than Anschutz/Cabot. I guess horizontal drilling is efficient in pulling more oil out of the Fargo field.

In conversation with someone at T R this is what I found out about the horizontal drilling in the Fargo Unit.

The horizontal wells are being drilled into the Palo Pinto formation which is not shale but a very dense limestone. It will require hydraulic fracturing to obtain commercial rates of production. The wellbore will be constructed such that all fracture fluids will be confined to the pay zone at a depth of about 4600’.

I asked if the 1508H well was “meeting their expectations for production?” He said it was a nice well for the old Unit, not a ‘barn burner’ but they were not expecting it to be. He said it is producing about 100 barrels per day. I told him it sure beats the 3 to 5 barrels per day that many of the old vertical wells are doing.
