I recently received a quit claim deed in my name for mineral rights on 280 acres located in Sanders County, Montana, in northwestern Montana. A mining company is offering to purchase the rights from me for a certain dollar value. I know which township, range and the sections I own the mineral rights on. Where can I find out how much an acre the rights are being sold for in that area to determine if their offer is fair?
I Don't know, but I would try to find out what minerals might be in the property. Copper? Potash? Silver? coal?, Gold? Also, what is it worth for your surface to be opened to dig out hard minerals. If they wanted oil and or gas, it would be very different.
You may want to consult with a nearby mining engineer or geologist. Do you have a neighbor who has a mine on his property? Are you near any known mines? The US Interior Department or another federal or state agency may have information.
You might Google your location or state and add "mines".
