What exactly is a Water Tract in Texas, and is there a map of them somewhere?

As the header states, what exactly is a Water Tract in Texas? I was researching a Mineral Owner recently, and many of their legals said things like, “an undivided 1/8 interest in water tract 1, 2, 3 and 4” in such and such section.

I was able to find a few plats in Texas RRC that showed the water tracts, so I could see where the Mineral Owner owned interest, but not every plat shows them and they are not displayed in any GIS map I’ve seen. I can’t find any information on them via Google, but I may just not know how to search properly for lack of knowledge.

These are usually old farm subdivisions and the plats can usually be found in the deed records but you may have to specifically ask for the plat books.
