I have tried to get a ballpark figure of the value of mineral(gas) rights in the Marcellus gas shale in Mercer county Penn. jamestown area. have not found any thing in over three days does anyone have any idea or know whom you can contact Thank You
Hey, Dale -
I always advise Landowners against selling their minerals, but may be able to answer your questions.
The value of your mineral interests depends upon where the land is located, how large the property is, how much mineral interest you're talking and whether or not it is presently under lease or under production.
I'll need to know all of that in order to try and answer your question.

Hey, Dale -
You say a company leased your mother's land about three years ago. How long is the term of the lease? Has it expired or is it going to soon?
What I'm trying to determine is: Are you looking to SELL the minerals or to LEASE them again?
I can tell you that lease bonus payments have gone up substantially in the area over the past 3 years. How much, I'll have to check with some friends about.
Something to be aware of: If your mother, at age 91, is on any kind of program such as Medicad (I think I got that right), her receiving a lump sum of money might make her ineligible for continued coverage. And when the money runs out, she may then be found ineligible for reinstated coverage because of a then pre-existing condition.

My brother has to sign the lease yearly so I think it is up every year And he has the 24 acres in his name and would release them not sell.
I don't think any oil companies that I know of will take a one year lease. Due to the size of the play it is difficult to get all the paperwork done and a drilling rig scheduled in such a short period of time.
Can you send me a copy of his latest lease?
You can use my email if you want to send it directly rather than post it here.

If you want something ballpark from a professional, I would recommend you to contact some one who is expert at leasing, buying and selling mineral rights. Try http://www.emberenergyok.com, they does a good job at financial analysis and market analysis.
Let me know if it helped.
Thanks.
