Well pumping for two mnths

Hello everyone. I was hoping someone can help me with an explanation of the response I got from the landman regarding the oil well that was constructed on our property. We noticed that the well began pumping in January and no one contacted us nor have we seen any compensation for any production. When asking the landman, his reply was "As for the production - I asked today and was told that is flow back water without marketable product at this time." Is this normal for a well to pump for over two months with this "flow back water?" What exactly is this process and how long does it normally take before the actual oil production begins? Appreciate the help!

Yes it's normal. If the well started pumping in January, I wouldn't hold my breath for a check before May.

If it has truly been pumping for two months, and not shut in, then it is probably producing something. Companies are just very tight lipped about results until they file their completion reports. Unless you have something in your lease requiring info on production results, it is very common to get stonewalled until you start receiving checks.

However, it could be an uneconomical well, i.e. dry or so much water it is not economical to produce it. Yes, the wells do flowback the frac water for a good while, but not two months.

Thanks guys!
