We just bought some property in Louisiana and feel like we have been short changed

We went to the closing and signed the paperwork under a title company rep.

Later we find out the mineral rights were not included. Do we have any recourse?

Take a look at your documentation. Most title companies will not perform searches or validate title to mineral estates. LA also has certain statutes regarding minerals (prescription rights) that makes a title evaluation more complicated. The good news is. those same prescription right limits may also eventually vest the mineral rights with you if they are not under production.
