Hi, Clint,

What does “Field Transfer” mean?

Rex,

This is the answer I got from Lorenza Garza with RR Commission after sending him an email:

Thanks very much for the answer which is very definitive and precise.

However, I have problems seeing or imagining the movement of a well which is a hole, a very deep hole, from field A to field B. Can someone enlighten me on this?

Fields are not set in stone, but can overlap. Phantom (Wolfcamp) includes 3rd Bone Spring and Wolfcamp while Sand Bar (Bone Spring) is only Bone Spring and Two Georges (Bone Spring) is 1st, 2nd & 3rd Bone Spring plus Wolfcamp A. Operators sometimes permit in 2 or 3 fields and file completion in particular field which suits them. So nearby wells can be in different fields. Or RRC may decide that completion depth is really Wolfcamp B instead of Wolfcamp A and order a field transfer. API number is for wellbore and never changes. But any change in field requires a new RRC lease number. Or if a well is recompleted up hole in a different formation, a new RRC lease number is assigned. Or if a well is reclassified from oil to gas or from gas to oil, then it gets a new RRC lease number. A gas well producing from formations where gas is separately measured at surface will have 2 different RRC numbers and report the volumes separately every month.

Thanks very much, Tennis.

So, the well is not moved (thank God, that would be a Herculean job, if possible).

The well could be situated on both Field A and Field B, but was permitted on Field A. But RRC may decide field transfer is necessary, to Field B, if;

  1. Completion depth is on Field B, or

  2. Recompleted well is in a different formation, or

  3. The well is reclassified from oil to gas or gas to oil.

There are still details that I don’t know or understand, but I won’t go into that now.

Thanks again, Tennis and Clint.

Rex

I know of an oil and gas producing site. It is called “Pembrook Unit, Tract 52”. It does not have an API #. How do I find it in the RRC GIS map? Or, Where is it? It should be in NE/4, Section 20, Block N, Upton County. But where in the section (NE/4)?

There is another site which I don’t know if it is producing or not at this time. It is named as “Pembrook Unit, Track 96”. Where is it? What is its present status, producing, in plan for future drilling (when), or what not?

Can anyone help, please? Thanks.

Upton County: Section 20, Block N/A-1328, N/E4

Rex,

I find 2 older vertical wells in N/E quarter of Section 20. One is plugged and the other is producing. I also find 2 horizontal wells (API 461-40158 & 59) running through the N/E quarter by the name of Brook N-20C/wells #2H & #3H drilled by Pioneer Natural Resources. They are very good wells.
