My great-grandmother has unclaimed property in Kansas with Koch Industries. I believe this is her mineral royalties. My grandmother tried to retrieve in the past with her Will and Death Certificate and was denied. How can I find out more about her having mineral rights in Kansas and I realize I will need to provide heirship and her Will to Kansas unclaimed properties. She passed in 1982. Thanks
This one is going to be extremely tough. Koch hasn’t been a crude purchaser in a long time.
Some states require proof of property.
I’d suggest submitting a new request for the unclaimed funds. I’d include a letter that indicates Koch is no longer a crude purchaser, and has not been a purchaser since around 1999. They do not have any records from their past business according to others who have encountered this same issue.
Minerals are normally passed down through inheritance. Have you done any genealogy in your family to find out their ties to Kansas? That might give you the name of a county where you should start your search. Once you find the county, contact the Register of Deeds in that county and explain to them your issue with unclaimed funds. They may (but are not obligated) to check the Grantor / Grantee index for your ancestors names to confirm if they in fact did own interest in that county at some point. From there you can order indexes for a particular section (property) and then order individual documents to gather further evidence of title.
