7 people got left mineral rights willed to them. One of those people were paying the taxes for several years, all of the taxes of which I was not aware of. I thought when I filed my yearly taxes and it asked on there about receiving money that is when my taxes got paid. About two years ago a tax bill showed up, I called the auditors office the girl I spoke with actually said she didn't know what it was for and not to worry about it. The second year the same tax bill shows up, when I called this time I found out the tax bill had been paid by one person in the past years and that person had now seperated himself and they just randomly picked someone to send the tax bill to, I explained I was not going to pay everyone's taxes as I just lost my full time job because they closed down the buisness, she said they would send the bill to someone else. I asked about getting seperated and was sent a form to fill out and send back which I did. This year my tax bill came and it was for just my mineral rights and it got refused when I payed it because now they are saying the minerals rights have been sold. I was not informed of this ever. Its a mess and I'm wondering if a lawyer would be able to do anything about this?
