Recently discovered ownership from an offer letter to purchase from me. How do I find what royalties have not been paid out and exactly what I own?
First you need to state where the letter says the minerals are located, like the state, county, and abstract. Then maybe others can pull up a map of where they are and possibly show activity. It might help to also determine how much interest they are stating you own.
Hi @CrysDav ,
The offer letter should have the legal description - take that to the Texas RRC GIS Viewer to find the wells and current operator. For unpaid royalties, contact the operator’s owner relations and ask if there’s an account in your name and whether anything is in suspense.
What county is this in?
This is Ector County. The letter provides block and section i formation but nothing direct that I can find in my searches regarding ownership. Other inherited royalty/well rights were already transferred to my great-grandmother, then my mom and now myself. I haven’t had to search to find the ownership and rights and have no idea what I am looking for. Nothing I search is showing me anything from the letter descriptions. Ill reread the letter and your advice and see if I can find anything additional. Thanks!
Also check www.missingmoney.com in every state where your great-grandmother, your mom and you have lived plus Delaware to see if there are funds that are already in the state coffers. Check the operator for any current wells. Look outside the survey as the well or wells may have a surface location elsewhere.
Try searching in www.TexasFile.com under all of your names for probate documents, leases, etc.
Have you tried contacting the Company and requesting the documents that vest title in you or your family? They may not have the document, but they should be able to give you a book and page number you can use with the Ector County Clerk. If they do not have that information, then they most likely got your name from that tax role which would mean there is production related to the property. Good luck.
