Slow recognition of mineral rights purchase

Hello all! I purchased rights in October, 2024. It took me a while to find and hire an attorney, but I did, and the transfer of ownership was completed late this past summer. All documentation was sent to the oil and gas company in mid September. Since then, very little progress. I finally have an owner number, but that’s it. Many calls and emails to Owner Relations with no response, or they say they can’t find anything on me beyond the owner number.

What would you recommend my next step be? How could a certified letter help? The poor customer service is discouraging. I was a business owner, and I responded to everyone within three days. It’s a different world post COVID.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Was this Chevron??? I have the same problem

No, it is not. Very aggravating. I don’t think they want to part with the money.

Certified letter return receipt can be a good idea. In some states, that starts a mandatory response clock to start ticking. Document all of your previous attempts. Attach deeds, probate filing book and pages, owner numbers, previous owner name, your name, new W-9, etc. If you know that you have producing wells, demand payment and interest as required by statute. It can take about three-six months depending upon the operator. Many of them are dealing with millions of mineral owners and it does take time to process the information correctly.

Thank you Ms. Barnes. I have one month left to the 120 day post paperwork submission time. I will wait until then and send the certified letter.

I understand being inundated, but a one line email response would suffice rather than making new owners feel ignored.

Happy Holidays! :christmas_tree::wrapped_gift::grinning_face:
