Has anyone heard of any new activity in Sheridan County, like permits, drilling or re-working old wells?
I have a little less than a year remaining on current lease.
Thanks for any news.

Depends what part of Sheridan you are in. Drilling activity is and has occurred to the South end of the county. Marathon has the "Diomedes Prospect" which is occurring around the SE part of Sheridan. They have currently drilled 4 - 5 wells in and around that area and hold additional permits for several other new wells. My guess is that over the coming years, additional activity should occur in regards to the exploration of zones other that the Bakken. I have minerals in T31N;R59E;Section 31 which is currently under lease by Marathon and also has a drilling permit on the books for this area.
Charles,
I have minerals in T34N;R57W; Sections 6, 21, 28, & 31 also T35N;57E; Sections 30 & 31.
Best I can tell no new permits or activity?
Thanks,
Jerry

Developing areas takes years and Sheridan will be tapped in a major way in the years ahead. Don't forget the multiple zones in this county. At the present time, all spotlights are directed primarily across the border in ND. As this area becomes HBP, operators will begin to venture into the somewhat "risk" areas which has yet to be drilled on a major scale. It's somewhat of a sit and wait game. Hopefully, we will see some significant drilling begin over the next couple of years.
Hello Mr Mallory,
Is T35N R52E in the Diomedes Prospect? Is the Diomedes Prospect more promising than other areas of Sheridan County?
We dont know who owns our lease but are hoping to have some drilling going on in the next year. What do you think?

Toby:
The area you described will most likely not be considered in the Diomedes Prospect. The Diomedes Prospect area is further south of this area, actually SE of this area near the ND border. Marathon has drilled several Bakken wells in their Diomedes Prospect area but moved back to ND leaving several drilling permits active in this Diomedes Prospect area. Since one of the drilling permits is located on our mineral area in Sheridan, I called Marathon and they stated that plans to drill again in Sheridan is currently on hold due to drilling obligations in ND but they would eventually return the area. This Sheridan County area will be the site of off and on drilling over the next few years most likely after seismic work is completed. If an operator eventually taps the Bakken or Three Forks and brings in a very good well, others will begin to consider development in the area. Also, don't rule out the other formations in this Count which could prove very profitable. The only thing you can currently do as a mineral owner is stay abreast of the activity in your area and get the best leases in regards to bonuses and % royalties.
