I was hoing to get some questions answered. My elderly parents have received multiple papers from a lawyer office in the past about wabting to drill multiple horizontal wells and really didnt pay attention to them because they thought they were junk mail because it talked about royalties in Stephens County. Now they have received a letter from a company wanting to purchase their minerals. They don’t have a recolation of ever having minerals. How do we find out if they do have minerals and how to proceed from there.

Speak with an oil and gas attorney in Duncan (or elsewhere in Oklahoma. Spending a little money now could yield a lot of money down the road.

@SLMC you might look at okcountyrecords.com for Stephens County. Search for your parents name and see if they pop up. Narrow the search by entering the section, township and range in the proper boxes.

An attorney has done a drilling title search, so they have some sort of records that make them think your parents have mineral right. Don’t be talked into selling without finding out what they have and what they might be looking at for future activity. That is what all the papers were about. There is a pending horizontal well in the south half of 25 and 36. Also why you have an offer. Buyers want to buy wells early in the life of the well when production is highest. Your parents might want that income instead. Especially if there are additional wells in the future.

They also need to know if they have royalties from the shallower wells in those sections.

www.okcountyrecords.com is an excellent place to start. Use the advanced search option and try each of their names. You might find more minerals than just this one.

Thank you for your advice

You can search online to about 1996. You may also want to search using grandparent’s names as well. If you have common name, you can limit the search to the section, township range in the information you received.

Also, if they have been ignoring correspondence in the past, you may want to check for unclaimed funds in your home state as well as Oklahoma. [
