Royalties scam using business address of Post office box

Leasing Royalties to unknown business and address is post office box? Grandmother fell for it? What do we do? Loving County Texas

Many companies use P.O. box addresses. If you post the lessee’s name, someone may know about the company.

The use of a PO Box does not indicate a bad actor. We use a PO Box as an operating address for our Family Office which manages our property portfolio and mineral acquisitions. I also advise many mineral owners to consider having a PO Box for a consistent and secure delivery address. With this said, make sure to confirm the business, website and contact information before entering into any agreement. In most cases you can view recent transactions by visiting the County Clerk/Recorder online access.

So to be clear, you think your grandma got scammed bc she leased to someone with a PO Box? 95% of companies use po boxes, if youre basing it off that, you are over reacting big time.

You can try looking on www.Texasfile.com for the document. It is free to look and inexpensive to print a copy. Your “Leasing Royalties” comment is a red flag. See if you can find the document and read it. Or see if Loving County has an online portal. It may have been a scam where the title at the top of the document says one thing, but the body of the document is really a deed and a sale. This issue has been posted on the forum recently.

If it was a regular lease, then many companies use a post office box for security.
