How do I find out if I have oil/gas royalties in Osage, Oklahoma? My grandmother received a check and has been deceased for many years.
Dear Mr. Slankard,
Do you have a copy of the check? You might want to look at the Oklahoma unclaimed property website.
Best Buddy Cotten
Thomas,
Was your grandmother of Indian descent?
Osage County, Oklahoma is very unique in that the Osage Tribe owns all the mineral rights. Actually the ownership is a bit more complicated, but that is the effective result. The income is distributed to those with “headrights”.
As Buddy Cotten stated, look in the State Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property search as it may have been from another location. Link to OST Unclaimed Property Search If you think there may be a connection to the Osage property, contact the Tribe.
My grandmother was 100% percent Osage
My grandmother was 100% percent Osage
My father I believe is actually 50% Osage and 50% Cherokee
I don’t have a copy of any check. I just know my grandmother was getting a royalty check up until she passed I think in 2003. My dad passed before her so I don’t know her well. But through other sources we know she has royalties, old royalties. We found out that we have mineral rights in Texas as well.
