Richland County Montana

My family inherited mineral rights in Richland, Montana. In 2011 we signed a five year lease. I have not heard a word since. Can anyone tell me if they know anything about this property or activity in the area?

Township 22 North, Range 55 East, M. P.M.

Section 30: L1(37.78), 2(37.85), E2NW, NE4

Go to the Webmapper on this page and zoom to your township/range/section. It is a pretty easy site to use.

David:

Your mineral area is just to the South of the heavy activity in Richland County. Petro Hunt has a producing well near your mineral area in T22;R55;Section 28. The well is a newer horizontal well. I would not be surprised if this area becomes very active over the next few years as additional rigs become available. Problem you will have is that your 5 year lease will give the operator plenty of time to drill so it could possibly be 2016 before any activity occurs in your area. Good luck and you are in a very good location for future development.

Thanks Kevin. That site seems pretty user unfriendly but maybe with some practice I will get the hang of it....

Thanks Charles. I pushed for three year lease but they would not take it. We got $500 per acre and 19% royalty.

If you have additional minerals in the area, I would suggest that you keep any future leases to a maximum of 3 years. Sounds like you did well on the royalty end which is actually more important than the bonus.
