My brother and I received a request for an 18 month Geophysical Permit for a 3-D seismic test. The requested permit is for a little over 5 acres @ $10 per acre. What kind of property damage if any might be expected for not only our property (house, barn, mature trees, etc) but surrounding property as well? And if seismic testing or drilling a well was to occur how much cleared area would be necessary for those operations?
Any advice/comments are greatly appreciated.
There was no damage to our place at all. The only problem we had was that they were out there the same week we were having hay cut. The guy cutting hay had to go around the 5x5 spots where their equipment/sensors were located.
If you only have 5 acres, you probably wouldn't have anyone wanting to put the location of a well on you. The funny thing is, they really don't need to use your 5 acres to get a really good read on the ground beneath you. They can do it from the fence lines, and probably will if you don't allow them access. There is so much horizontal drilling going on in OK right now. They usually build one location & drill all 4 wells from that spot.
DO not, and I repeat do not, sign a contract for $50. There is so little to gain and loss could outweigh any good it might do. Your property will not be condemned for oil production as it is small and they will shoot close to you anyway.
What area of East Texas are you in -- county and nearby towns?? Will appreciate knowing where you are located. Thanks. Dick Gaut
Thank you!

If you only have five acres, they can read that from the neighbors' place, but if none of the neighbors will cooperate they pickon you. The proposed payment is an insult.
