Reeves County, TX - Oil & Gas Discussion archives

I was messing around on the GIS WEB GLO map viewer and i noticed that some of the properties are shaded yellow. Does anybody know what that means? The yellow pops up under other map layers.

George – Yellow shading means:

Relinquishment Act Land: Upland tracts sold between September 1, 1885 and May 27, 1937; all surface rights conveyed.

To access the legend, click the red Toolbox near the center-top of the screen; from the dropdown menu select “Printable Legend”. Later – Buzz

E.A. - you asked: “Do either of you know someone I could contact to research all of this? I know it will likely be expensive.”

Again, I recommend you first contact the Texas General Land Office.

They are at your service… and they’re free. Later – Buzz

Sorry. I missed that part below. Thx!!

Even though in the last few months there have been several large offers to purchase our mineral acres in T&P Block 51, Section 8 , Twn 7 (A-5873) they remain unleashed. Any logical explanation considering that there is a lot of activity in all the surrounding sections? It was last leased by BOCI 2005-2011. Donny

I plan to contact my Lessee, Clayton Williams, but wanted to educate myself before I do. Looks like drainage to me. COG is the company drilling 500’ from my minerals.

Ann, my leases have a paragraph (17) that states that if a commercially produced well is drilled within 1,000’, the operator is allowed 100 days to protect your acreage with a well. Have you checked your lease?

Ann a horozinal well is gradually slanted from the drilling site to the final depth, they are not fraked. until they reach the lateral at final depth there is no fracturing on the slant.

Ann/Billy - I was curious on the transition length to make the turn from a vertical wellbore to the horizontal lateral. I looked at the ‘as-completed’ plat EOG Resources filed with their amended permit application for the HARRISON RANCH 56 #1002H, 389-33361, A-4449 & A-4451, 15.8 miles S of Orla with these particulars:

  • First Take Point calculated to be 534.8’ distance from Surface Hole Location.

Other FWIW items:

  • Measured Depth to First Take Point = 10,906’ (True Vertical Depth not specified)

  • Lateral Length = 4,517’

Since the First Take Point is probably not on the exact end of the lateral, it is safe to conclude it took less the 535’ to make the turn. Later – Buzz

Billy - ‘first take point’ would be where the last frac stage was initiated. Imagine a 4,500’ horizontal lateral that was fraced in 10 stages, i.e., every 450 feet. The first frac stage would occur near the end of the lateral. Then you would back out of the hole partially and do another frac stage, and so on. The last frac stage would be the 'first take point, i.e., near the beginning of the lateral. Later – Buzz

Billy, my minerals are 504 feet from the bottom hole location.

Billy, my minerals are 504’ from BHL, & 504’ from Terminus Point. My minerals are also 512.5’ from Last Take, 564’ from First Take & 467’ from Penetration Point.

Buzz confusion reigns, or it rains confusion lol tks. anyway.

Ann – IMO, you are being overly concerned about being drained by a nearby well. In these ‘unconventional’ shale/tight sands formations being produced near you they are probably recovering less than 5% of the hydrocarbons in place, so you can see that leaves little threat to draining your section. It’s not like the ole days, i.e., that being ‘conventional’. Later – Buzz

Again, Buzz, Thank You! I still have not adjusted my mind to the new drilling and fracking methods. Am used to the old Oklahoma oil fields. I would like CWI to drill but I didn’t want to contact them without more info. So, I will wait 'til they’re ready.

My Best,

Ann

Clayton Williams – 7-25-13 Earnings Conference Call

RE: Reeves County

  • Now running three rigs, up from one earlier in the year

  • Going all horizontal, targeting the Upper Wolfcamp

• Learning how to orient the wells to follow natural fractures

• Continuing to improve frac program

• See best frac ever in their latest well. Last four have been strong, covering a wide area of their acreage

• Joint Venture suitor (international company) is evaluating data. Should hear something soon. Ready to market a JV with a broker if this deal does not materialize.

• Focus now is on earning acreage in Reeves Wolfbone (i.e., Chesapeake/Shell farmout. Required to drill 16 more verticals or maybe 8 more horizontals by March 1, 2014 to keep the farmout agreement active).

this could be a deep zone and first take point in top part of the pay still on the oblique and other plugs going down until they reach the true lateral i dont know the particulars of the hor. wells even though i worked on drilling rig many yrs. ago.

Buzz tks. for the info. looks impossible for first take point to be 538 ft. from surface hole location in a 4000 ft. lateral.

Ann Whitchurch i am a little slow on the uptake but i think i finally see the picture, this company put location as close to property line as allowed, then ran their lateral line paralell to the property line asclose as allowed by law!!

Buzz tks. for the info. dont really understand what a take point is will have to do some research.
