Recovering minerals from fracking fluids

Has any effort been made to “mine” the waste fracking fluids for trace minerals? Any profit to be seen from this process?

I really don’t believe there would be much of value to be recovered. These days, frac fluid is generally 99% water. There is, however, money to be made by purifying the flowback water to be reused in other wells.

There is a bill pending in the Texas legislature that could arguably declare all produced water is owned by the operator, unless your lease specifically gives ownership or a royalty to the surface owner.

Thanks for info. I assume trace elements present in the water discharge. So that would not be considered a mineral claim operation if it did occur…in Texas.
