I keep getting these letters/registration notices from the Oklahoma Mineral Owners Registry asking me to pay them an annual fee to register my informations with them. They are charging an annual fee of $44. Is this a legitimate request and is anyone else registering their information for their mineral rights with this organization? Is it really necesary or useful? Your commens ae welcome.
I gave a talk one time to about 30 landmen. In the crowd were guys/ladies who had their own lease brokerage, guys who worked for brokers, and in-house landmen. I asked the crowd how many have ever searched the mineral owner registry. Nobody raised their hands. I asked if anybody knew of anybody who ever used the registry. Nobody knew of anybody who had ever used it.
It’s certainly possible a landman would use it to find somebody, but my experience and one-time poll suggest that nobody searches the registry.
I also have been receiving similar Oklahoma MOR notices for years. My take is if they found me (mineral rights owner), obviously my info is already out there for anyone else interested in the leasing/buying mineral interests business. Just a question if you care to answer, what county do you have interests in, Caddo Co. for me.
