Can anyone tell me what else I can possibly provide to prove my relation to my deceased mother? I have sent her death certificate along with my birth certificate showing my parents’ names and an affidavit of heirship. They have given me 30 days to respond.
We need more background here.
One would think that would be sufficient. I had a landman tell me that he had to find an old report card from high school that showed his address and his mom’s address to prove that he lived with her. Crazy!
If your mother remarried and had a different name at death, you may need to provide records of marriage(s). In Oklahoma it is not uncommon for companies to require a probate.

If your mother had a common name, it’s possible they just want to confirm they are dealing with the right person. I’ve seen the wrong people get paid before because a landman reached out to the wrong people with the same name and bought their interest, only to have contacted the wrong people. It took years to figure this out and the operator paid the wrong people…
I’m sorry I should have included that I went on Claim it Texas and found 37 checks in my mom’s name which she deeded over to me 2 years before she passed. Before she passed, I found on the same website many checks. We went through the process providing info and after 18 months they started sending her those checks. At that time, these 37 were not listed. So I sent in docs after docs requesting those 37 checks. Since November, they have denied me 3 times saying I haven’t proven my relationship to her. I sent deeds all the way back from my grandfather to my father to my mother to me, her death certificate, my birth certificate with both parents listed on it, affidavit of heirship, even located the companies that issued the checks and got a letter from them. Same address for last 25 years where they sent my mom’s checks to her address is my address. They still said I have not proven relationship to my parents. Very frustrating. It’s going on 1 year next month I’ve been trying to get those. I have 30 days from email to provide… what else can I possibly provide to them is my question?
Ask them exactly what they need. We cannot really guess. Some companies require a probate even though there is an affidavit of heirship. If there were no wills, then the laws of intestate may apply. Finding out their requirement will give you direction.
Thank all of you for your insight it has all been very helpful. I finally got to speak to my claims handler and she has been very helpful to explain and send me the docs I needed. Now maybe this will all be settled finally after a year this month! Thank you to each of you for your help through all of this I’ve learned a lot through this forum!
Texas UCP is fairly good, but all states can do better. Once the oil is sold it becomes personal property and some states may require additional title documentation or supporting information. This can be very frustrating for the novice. Best practice (in your case) is to provide the conveyance deed, death and birth certificate, as well as any documentation linking your mother to the property. I commonly will try to contact or establish a connection to the companies that forward funds to UCP, get on pay with any of the producing properties still producing, provide copies of current and old Division Orders, and pay any back property taxes. This creates quite a body of evidence for the UCP department and a lot of work for you, but the process is much faster once this work is completed. Good luck.
