As a spelunker in my younger years, yes and luckily it is separated from deeper carbonate formations by insoluble layers.
Many used freshwater aquifers such as the Garber-Wellington exhibit such properties.

Tom, The Nemaha Ridge is carbonate karst and I’ve always figured it is a large part of the problem. It runs straight down from Kansas to OKC. Pseudokarst evaporate karst is northeast OK.
We are on the same page. I have minerals in 18 9N 6E and an application has been filed. I will not lease. The commission will probably allow it to proceed, but I will be forced pooled. It is located almost below the Cushing Hub.
I guess a 5.5 or 6.0 there may cause a spike in WTI prices.
Oil is found in many areas trapped by an insoluble layer due to faulting.
I always pictured this trapped oil as a natural lubricant which allowed the fault block to move with little friction. When it is removed, the lack of lubrication causes a surface quake.
Just my brain fart.
Tom, It’s the angle of the fault that causes the quakes. OK has pressures from the San Andreas, Mid Atlantic and Juan de Fuca and the faults tilt to the NW or NE creating angles of 30 to 40 degrees of the pressures. If the faults where steeper they would not be prone to the strike slip which causes the quakes. These faults are deep, about 300 million years old and have been reactivated by injecting into the deep formations right above the bedrock.
Maybe we could inject oil into the Nemaha Ridge and that might help the Carbonate karst drive the oil to the Sandstone Karst in Payne County, Oklahoma and help turn the carbonate formations in insoluble layers to get the Pseudokarst to push more oil into my well in Section 14, of Payne County…LOL…You guys are way above me in this thinking…
I should have added this is an analogy since this aquifer it is in sandstone.
Bob, you just about have it right. Good thinking.
Martha,
Anytime pressure is placed on the any deep formation formations, relief if sought, may it is halfway around the globe. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
That is leaning on my degrees in chemistry and physics. I have always said, in 4.5 billion years, how many times have we come this far?
Tom, Help me out with this. Calcite dissolves with acid, so it can be dissolved or precipitated by freshwater depending on pH, temperature and ions. When acid dissolves calcite it releases CO2 gas and ambient CO2 slightly solubilizes calcite. However, saltwater is saturated and cannot directly dissolve limestone unless it’s mixed with freshwater. And, due to calcite’s retrograde solubility properties an increase in CO2 would increase carbonate uptake and degassing of CO2 from the injected saltwater would cause reprecipitation of calcite. So, in effect, anti-dissolution of the Missississipain Lime could be dependent on high recovery of acidic fresh water drilling liquids and injecting CO2 resulting in degassing of CO2 and returning calcite back to a solid which would stabilize the karst topography.
Martha,
As you know the Mississippian is a dehydrated inland saltwater sea. Freshwater under pressure will frack and will dissolve the salt. This is why the expelled water has an extreme saline content. The Karst formation can be stabilized, but it is still there and can be more easily fractured from external forces such high pressure wastewater injection.
G Win, How long has any company been producing and selling from the old well and was there a period of time when the well did not produce? Don’t sign anything until you figure out what’s going on. Give me the legal description and name of the well. Any company that wants a division order returned ASAP is suspect.
Tom, The Miss can be vertically drilled in most areas. They must intend to highly fracture the Miss then infill with verticals.
Tom, Thanks, London reports the tax has no chance of passing in the ‘foreseeable future’ because the Republicans control congress.
Was there a comment about AEP. thought I saw one, but now can not find it…10 bucks a barrel tax…haha,That’s all we need…Tax Iran’s while your at it Obama…
This is a Reuters article from London.
Could anybody help me out?? I just received a division order from a company yesterday. It is dated September 15th 2015. This is an old well I inherited a couple of years ago.
Why wouldn’t it be dated last week??? Do they owe me back interest?? They want it returned ASAP.
Obama proposes $10/bbl crude oil tax. http://www.ogj.com/articles/2016/02/obama-proposes-10-bbl-crude-oil…
Martha, I don’t know when it produced last. This is the only info I can find on the O.C.C. website.
API: 3504724303 operator: 23610 Well Type: AC
It is Amanda #1-27 27-21N-06W Garfield County ok
They said that they are taking over the service of the well and needed the original (mom’s),division order transfered to my sister and I.
I thought it was wierd that the order was dated September 1, 2015.
Thank you for your help!!!
G Win, When did you last receive royalty payments for the Amanda 1-27? Records shows Marjo Operating Co, Inc. has operated the Amanda 1-27 since April 2001. However, The Oklahoma Tax Division (OTC) shows that the well started producing in April of 2015.
