As a defendant in a surface-only partition suit filed by cousins against cousins, my question is: What does one look out for, especially if things are not done at arm’s length and how do I protect our interest?

The easiest way to protect the interest is a partition by lis pendens.

The word is licitation. It is a civil law term.
