How close may an oil company drill and produce oil from a horizontal well to another property not leased by that oil company without being legally required to compensate that property/minerals owner?
I am not a lawyer and one should contact one if you have a problem. According to article of the Real Estate Center, Technical report 29, by Judon Fambrough, page 6, says “a vertical well must be 467 feet from lease line and 1,200 feet from another well on the same lease”. “A horizontal well and its drainhole must continue to meet the same offset requirements”. I think the oil company can get waivers on that rule from Railroad Commission.
