I received a solicitation in the mail to register with this registry. Is this a worthwhile database that is used by operators and landmen to locate mineral owners? There is a $35 annual fee and they claim 200,000+ members in the database.
I have been a member for two years and find their information and response to inquiries excellent.
I'M on my 3rd or 4th year and I am happy with their info.
Finding ownership of mineral rights for a landman that is researching an area of interest for an operator is as simple as doing a search at the court house. There they will find ownership of everyone in any specific area. I feel the $35 annual fee is just a waste of money. Not sure who would use it. Anybody that has "been in the business" for any amount of time have always said the same thing.
I have heard that if you just know that Grandpa owned property in a certain county but you aren't sure if he sold it, or sold the surface and kept the minerals, and don't know the location, then if the landman comes looking for Grandpa who is long gone, he might have a harder time tracking you down. I think they let you register Grandpa's name, so the Landman can see who Grandpa's heirs are and current info. At least that's how I understand it.
I was at a meeting of about 80 landmen. The group was a mix of company landmen, land managers, lease brokers and field landmen. I asked if anybody in the room had ever examined the Oklahoma mineral law registry. Not one landmen said yes. I then asked if any of them knew of anybody who examined these records. Again, no one said yes. My conclusion is that this registry is not used by landmen or companies trying to find heirs.
I use their site to primarily look at going lease rates and initial production figures for areas we hold mineral rights.
Very informative information..one stop shopping..lol
I don't see any point in it. Think it's a waste of money in my opinion.
Yes, any thing that helps you decide what your minerals are worth is always helpful. I have been a member for several years, and they have helped me out a lot.
I've been a member for a few years and am not sure if it has helped. I do know it is very hard to find an owner if the owners information had changed, usually there is not a phone number, etc. In the past I have had a hell of time getting my owed money out of the State(s) Treasure's office..
