How can I learn if there is any oil activity in a specific area in Montana
This website would provide production information for wells drilled http://bogc.dnrc.mt.gov/. If you're looking for information regarding whether there is leasing going on in your area you would need to check at the County courthouse for recently recorded leases. Or you can check on this website to see if there is a group with ongoing discussion for your County of interest.
Robert:
Where are your minerals located? Please be specific as possible such as county or Township/Range/Section.
They are at township 19 north, range 52 east P.M.M., section 33: N/2, SE4. I am very new at this and do appreciate your kind help
Robert:
Looking at the GIS map, several very good producing wells are located to the East of your mineral area, specifically in T19N;R53E. No active wells in T19N;R52E area. Are you currently leased? If not or if you are and the lease is nearing expiration, do some research on these producing wells in the proximity of your mineral area. You should be able to negotiate a very good lease as drilling should increase in the next few years for all of these Eastern MT areas.
Just to add to Charles' reply, there are some good wells to the east with a couple even completed in 2010 & 2011. Petro-Hunt drilled both of those I see down to 14k feet to the Red River formation and is making a decent amount of oil. I've attached some screenshots below:
Wells in the area. The red is the Bakken area.
Oil production heat map to see how the oil production looks in the area. Can see those wells to the east here.
The Boje Farms 19-54 17D-20-1H. Completed Red River (11000' to 14000') on 2/23/2011
The Austby 19-53 2B-34-1H. Completed Red River 11/18/2010
I hope this information helps.
