Oil in the barnett shale

Is there oil in the Barnett Shale? Will new technology be able to extract it?

jay:

There is oil in the Barnett Shale play and successful extraction appears good. Instead of going into great detail about this topic, google “Barnett Shale Combo Play” and read the various articles on this subject. I think the oil areas tend to be located in the Western counties of this play.

ok thank you sir.

Jay,

Thanks for posting a question I had thought about posting and thanks Charles for your answer.

See this EOG article about combo plays in the Barnett. I’ve been trying to get some land leased in the Western part of the Barnett but haven’t had much luck.

Chris,

Thanks for the update. Sounds like some decent production in those wells. What county are your minerals in?

I’m in northeast Johnson County, Texas, between Burleson and Mansfield, close to Lilian, Texas.

I don’t own them, but the ones I’m trying to lease for a relative in the Western part of the Barnett are in the SW/4 of Throckmorton County. Not any Barnett Gas wells there and a lot of shallow Strawn/Caddo wells etc. But I know of a few vertical Barnetts nearby.

Chris,

Good luck on the lease. Hope the relative gets some good production someday.

There’s supposedly some Barnett in my area of Wilbarger County. Anschutz is the major player at this time. They have started leasing some more acreage as of now. They already have over 400,000 acres leased in our area as of back in January 2012.

Southeast Tarrant County and Northeast Johnson County were absolutely on fire 4-7 years ago, but for natural gas, no oil. Some of my clients’ largest producing wells came out of that pocket basically east of Lillian and north of Highway 67. Whenever the price of natural gas rebounds, you probably will see more activity in that area.

Thanks Pete. Yes, I was pulling in very good money 4 years ago before the big drop. Chesapeake has really been dishonest with us. They pay almost nothing. 2 small wells with EOG pay twice as much as 6 large producing wells with Chesapeake. But the price is rebounding.
