Oil Company does not want to drill

Hello-

My brother and I own mineral rights in Atascosa county (Eagle Ford Shale). They were leased about 5 years ago initially and released last year. We are now hearing that they may not want to drill due to the topography of the land. I was just curious if anyone has encountered this on their property? Are their Oil companies that may have better resources who are able to drill or should we just sell our mineral rights. It has been really frustrating the past few years waiting. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I doubt the topography would keep them from drilling (if there are viable minerals in economic quantities) - it's more likely that you are in an updip/ thin oil area.

Who is the oil co? Many are busy pursuing their 'hot-spots' , and may only drill 'just-in-time' to keep from losing lease. How long is your new lease for, and what part of Atascosa, and how many acres? There are certain companies that might be faster to drill, but there are tons of variables. No-one is going to drill just to loose money at this point (at least on purpose anyway).

THANK YOU! It is Murphy. Our new lease expires at the end of next year, 2015. It is for 150 acres.

and what part of Atascosa? - eastern portion has been being drilled actively by EOG recently; my place is nearby in Wilson County- just drilled this year after waiting 5 years.

LJPA -

The Eagle Ford thins out in northern Atascosa County. The "topography" they spoke about may be the subsurface topography.

If you will tell me your legal description, I will look up your area and let you know what's going on drilling wise.

If you would prefer to send it more privately, accept my invitation to become a Friend on The Forum and you can send it directly to me.
