I received phone call from New Mexico Lea County Section 25 Township 19 S Range 34 E property about overriding royalty a month or so ago but did not hear back from them so contacted them and found they were unsure if it was owned by me or someone with similar name and wanted to know if I get any checks from any operators. I have gotten checks at different times but not sure of operator names off hand. Can I go somewhere on line and research this myself to find out if it’s mine or not? I have had so many dealings and confusion with stuff I inherited from my dad that I am just not sure if I can help myself with this research in any way. Would appreciate any help. Thank you.
What is your dad’s name? Do you receive payments on a well called the Tusk Federal from Conoco?
Yes. Lea county clerk You might get lucky and find leases and royalty deeds.
Depending on the age of the documents, it is easy or time consuming.
Old stuff is found by searching indexes and finding book and page number and them requesting that page from the county clerk. There are two indexes one for grantor and one for grantee.
https://www.leacounty.net then Clerk’s Office Lookup these are the ones available on line.
If you click on “Scanned Index” on the Clerk’s Office Lookup you will get the old stuff that is not online.
I have found the Lea county staff friendly and pleasant to work with. They do require book and page number though. That’s what you find in the index.
Yes, looks like Tusk Federal 002H, 003H, 004H, and 005H run up and down across Section 25 in 19-34. Operator appears to be Concho Operating, aka ConocoPhillips, aka COG Operating LLC. The API numbers all start with 30025, and the remaining digits for those wells respectively are 39555, 415730, 41358, and 41574. (There is another Tusk Federal API number of 30 025 41589 for a well 004H which was maybe drilled but not completed, dunno.)
