I heard to day that a surface owner located near Elkhart has been contacted about putting a rig on their property. I’m following up to get more info about company and specific location.
Expand has done a lot leasing in that area, so it is likely that this will be an Expand Bossier/Haynesville well. Cactus Rig 141 is currently drilling the Expand Bobby Yancey 2H in Houston County (spud date was November 20). The rig location is about 10 miles from Elkhart, so if this is indeed going to be an Expand well, it is possible that this rig will make the move when the current drilling is completed.
Do any of think that there might be some “price fixing” going on in this Western Haynesville Play along with lease terms? Why does it seem that between BIG companies, there are only TWO main players?
One may think that this could be the case - and this has happened in the past in other areas (e.g. Michigan for deep gas play). But I would not expect this to be happening now in the Western Haynesville play area.
Players are limited here due to high well costs (up to $30 million per well or more), extensive gas pipeline needs and the expertise needed to successfully make this play “work”
Comstock, Aethon, Mitsui and Expand - nice list of players right now / all capable to doing things the right way to effectively monetize this play concept
I have no new information. Now that Expand has finished drilling the Yancey well in Houston County, we wait to see where the rig, Cactus 141, shows up next.
Cactus Rig 141 has begun drilling a well for Expand in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. I heard yesterday that someone is planning a large-scale 3D seismic shoot in southwestern Anderson County. This is likely to be Expand, but that is not confirmed.
Surface owners who allow a 3D shoot on their property are in for problems. I had that here about 2010 or so. They were in and out of our property for a period of 6 months or more. It was done by PGS in Houston County, Texas. In the creek bottom land the seismic bore holes flowed and seeped water for many year’s and still are. Never again if I can help it. We own all the mineral rights so that will make a difference. I’m deleting it from any new leases.
The statement about surface seismic shoots may be true in your case, but not necessarily true in every case. It depends upon the terrain and the type of shoot-dynamite or vibrator trucks with geo phones. We were quite pleased with getting a new road around our pond and two horizontal wells drilled because they found what they were looking for.
I was in an “overlap area” for the PGS 3D shoot. They would come in and mark the bore holes drill them. Then come in and lay and hook up the geo phones. Shoot the charges, then move the lines and do the entire process on a different line it seemed like over and over. I never knew when or where they would show up on ATV’s & trucks. I still have problems with “sink holes” and “seeps” from that.
