I just recently took title to a 1/36 interest in a few tracts in Major County, Oklahoma. I’d like to get some sort of grasp on what I actually have. I don’t know if there is any production or current leases. I took a look at the Oklahoma oil and gas commission website, but all that was foreign to me. I live out of state so looking at the courthouse really isn’t much of an option either. I understand I could hire a landman, but I’m only looking at something like 2 acre interests in each tract, so that sounds a bit pricey.
I can give you an idea once you can furnish a legal description of your property.
Example:
Section 35 Township 25N Range 3W
NW/4 Section 7 Township 20N Range 9W SE/4 Section 7 Township 20N Range 9W SE/4 Section 12 Township 20N Range 10W NE/4 Section 12 Township 20N Range 10W NW/4 Section 5 Township 20N Range 9W
I don’t see any production for the past year in those sections.
Very small activity in Major County right now.
There have only been 22 wells drilled in the County the past year.
Thanks for the info even if you did shatter my dream of watching those big royalty checks coming in!
Any idea on what these rights may be worth to sell? I was offered $200/ac after posting my question.
There is still a little leasing activity in Township 20N-Range 9W. Most of the recent drilling activity has been just over the County line in Kingfisher County. There hasn’t been much activity since the 70’s and 80’s there. They had been gearing up to drill a lot of wells in Major County, and the courthouse still has a fair amount of landmen in it, but low oil prices have at least diminished present and future drilling activity. You might contact Cold Snap as they are still doing leases in that Township/Range.
