In preparation for the upcoming legislative session, NARO-Texas is looking for good examples of the “royalty lease scam” being perpetrated these days. This involves approaching someone with an active lease and producing well, usually elderly, and presenting what looks to be an oil and gas lease. In return for a lump sum payment, the document is actually selling 75% of the royalty stream in the lease. The document is usually presented as a top lease. I’m very glad to hear that NARO is working on this. We received letters similar to this twice now. If I recall correctly it even had a check that, had we signed it and deposited it, would have given them a HUGE portion of our proceeds. We shred the letters (and made a pact that we plan to poke them in the eye if ever we see them on the street. 
)
Wish I had kept those letters for proof now.
