Does anyone else here just own the surface of their property? Know of any, more active, forums relating to the issues surrounding oil & gas and surface owners?
The surface is considered real estate, so you would have to hunt for those types of forums. If you are interested in the surface activity regarding oil and gas drilling, you may be able to ask questions here in the proper county. Most of the surface owners in the county no longer own the minerals under them. The mineral rights can be sold separately as they are also real property. Over time, many farmers and ranchers sold their mineral rights to pay the property taxes on the surface when times were lean.
