I have minerals in Karnes County. Just found out the surface was sold to a company that is going to drill a salt water disposal. No one has contacted me regarding this situation. As a 50% mineral owner, don't I have rights and need to know what is going on? I am very upset and need some advice.
Ms. Webb, I hope I can clear this up for you. If you own mineral rights and not the surface, you can negotiate to lease your minerals and reserve a royalty from their production. Unfortunately, pore space in the ground is not a mineral. I suppose the pore space and even wind farm rights could have been severed if anyone had thought to do so when the surface was sold. I don't think you have any right to the pore space because it can not be produced and carried away. I do see a bright side, an operator could save a small fortune in haulage charges with a disposal well right there. Possibly someone will drill you a well.

What other types of information do you have beyond the lease being in La Salle County?
