Mistake on royalties

Well been doing some land research since I was contacted on some royalties I didn't know i had from inherantance... What I found was my grandfather bought all royalties under 3 1/4sections from family totaling 480 acres from what I can tell... The royalties have been paid out on a lease that was passed from gas company to gas company that was signed before his purchase... So I guessing the title searches by said company's or lack of has missed this... Is that a possibility??? If so since I just seeing this(I have appointment with gas and oil atty next week anyways on other business) what are possibilities??? Thanks for any input!!M

The oil company/s had a lease, and knew or could figure the property's interest because the research had already been done. The operator does not continually research the chain of title on the off chance that something will pop up. The lease probably contained a clause that the company should be notified in writing of any change of ownership and that they are not responsible for misdirected royalty payments until 30 days after they are notified. I presume that you have informed the operator and I hope you have read the lease. Good luck.
