Mineral Rights Unknown

I am working with a state for unclaimed property. My father died about 30 years ago and owned mineral rights. I have no idea where it was owned or when it was purchased. It’s linked to Atlantic Richfield which was bought by BP a while back and they don’t know anything. Without knowing the state or county to look up the deed, how can I go about finding out more about this? Thank you!

Welcome to the forum. This could take some hunting. Start with the state where he lived when he passed. I am assuming that is the state treasurer’s office for that state. If you are in Texas, you could try using www.Texasfile.com to see if you can search on his name. If you are in OK, then try www.okcountyrecords.com. Some of the digital sites only go back to the 1990’s so they may not go far enough back online. The actual counties have the records in paper form. You may have to hire a landman to help you.
