Mineral Rights Newbie in Hood & Somerville County, TX

Hi All,

My grandmother passed away in 2009 and left her Texas mineral rights to my father, a disabled vet. I’m trying to assist him in what to do next. Looks to be about 1,100 acres in total in both Hood and Somervell County, Texas. I’ve read through the Mineral Help tab discussing the do’s and don’ts. I do not live in Texas, but my father does, so logistically it’s a bit of a challenge. How do we go about selling? Is that wise? How do we know how much it’s worth?

Thank you in advance.

Please give the description of the location of each parcel of minerals in each county. We can tell you if there is activity or production in the area. The minerals might be worth keeping or just selling a percentage if your father needs some money. Please provide the Section, Block, and/or Abstract numbers. And thanks for helping your father.

Looks like it’s Abstract 926 in Hood County and 173 in Somervell County.

There appears to be a plugged vertical oil well (30470) just to the north of A-926 and a dry hole (30106) just south of A-926 in A-173. To the east and southeast are some Barnett Shale horizontal gas wells drilled by BKV North Texas LLC and Diversified Production LLC. Several of these wells are listed as ‘Temporarily Abandoned.’ They were not very good producers.

Thank you, Clint! This is interesting information. Thank you for being so helpful and for the work in researching this for me! This may seem like a dumb statement now… but… Now what? What do we do with this information?

Hopefully someone on this Forum will know of a person/company that can assist you with an appraisal of these minerals and they will chime in… and thanks again for helping your Father.
