Hi folks, I have a problem which I assume is not uncommon. I’ve got unclaimed property with the Oklahoma treasurer, including some mineral rights. I have the specifics on Township, etc.. and a quick search shows the family has a lot of claims going on. Family that I do not know or have contact with. It started out as a group of brothers and their wives on the original, and I’m guessing that things got consolidated or split somehow. Does anyone have advice on how to proceed? It seems like my mom should have some claim to her dad’s deed. But we do not have anything on paper and she is in a nursing home. Who should I talk to, how do I link her to the original mineral deed? The unclaimed property auditor needs something with her name on it. But turning up all these other deeds makes me very curious.
The first thing to do is to have a title chain run by a landman or if you can, yourself. If I understand your question correctly, you will need something to link your mother to Owner A. You will need to be able to show a chain of deeds or inheritances from A to B to C to your mother, etc.
Depending on the amount of money involved, the Treasurer’s office may need a batch of probates.
Ok thanks, that’s great to have a place to start. Any suggestions on finding a good landman? I’m willing to do what work I can too.
