My family has had mineral interests which have been put into a family trust before my mother’s passing last year. For better or worse, the interests are now held in the trust. The interest will soon be divided distributed among beneficiaries. My mother has questioned the ownership mostly due to the murky chain of inheritance. To make matters worse, my Grandfather may have partially sold a fractional interest in the 1940’s.
My questions - Is there a way I can investigate the history of ownership on my own or should I engage the assistance of an attorney or investigator? Any recommendations?
Has McHenry County been recently productive or has it been mostly dormant in the last 10 years?
I’d at least like to find out if this area is past it’s hay day or not.
