Long lateral horizontal wellbore

WHAT IS A LONG LATERAL HORIZONTAL WELLBORE MEAN COMING OFF MY NEW WELL 158-99-25. HOW DOES IT RELATE TO THIS WELL, ALSO WHAT IS A TWO SECTION 1280 SPACING. ANY HELP WITH WOULD BE GREAT. THANKS JERRY

Jerry:

This statement refers to the fact that the well is a horizontal drill covering two sections which is very common in the Williston Basin. Each section contains 640 acres; thus two is 1280 acres. Several wells have been drilled on even larger spacing units than a 1280. In the onset of this Williston Basin development, 640 acre spacing was the norm but it quickly grew to 1280 due partly to the drilling of these long lateral horizontal wells. There will be more 640 acre spacings most likely, when the border sections ND/MT are drilled, since these are sections containing less than 640 acres.
